please has anyone had the same trouble as me? the only way i can shop is online for food and health products , i have not had a letter from the government to prove my vulnerability so i can get a delivery slot in stores like Tesco etc, i have asked my GP who was very short with me when i asked him,so being the coward i am i dropped it.i have tried online government uk emailing some local services but had no replies, the results of not having had an eligibility letter has now affected my health because i cannot get deliveries . i hope someone can advice me on this as i have began to loose weight and i am underweight already.thank you Regards Gillian

Have you tried all supermarkets? They all got no slots?

@samara sorry to read about your difficulty getting supermarket delivery slots.
Were you asked to shield earlier in the year? If so, supermarkets may accept the shielding letter.
If you were not asked to shield, you are probably not considered “extremely vulnerable” which you may need to review.
This seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery but diabetes alone is not generally a criteria for extreme vulnerability.
“Only” vulnerable does not qualify us for a delivery slots.

Unfortunately it will be virtually impossible to book deliveries with most stores before CHRISTMAS BUT if you have an Iceland check them. I’ve just tried their site and local to me they have a lot of delivery slots available for tomorrow. Although their range is limited they do sell a variety of fresh, tinned and packet as well as frozen foods.
Tesco seem to have slots available in early January so if you can I would pre-book deliveries now. you Do need to be organised with it though eg tomorrow I will be booking my delivery for January 8th or 9th.
if you are on Facebook it is worth looking for a Covid support group where a volunteer is willing to do deliveries for you.
also phone the local council when they are open on Monday and see if they can offer Covid support such as a volunteer to do your shopping.
it may Also be worth phoning the customer services of the supermarket that you have deliveries with to see if they can help with priority slots in the future BUT I certainly know that with Tesco the priority slots in my area are all booked until the new year.
i hope these suggestions helps

yes i agree with you, but i have other chronic illness and disabilities that put me under "extremely vulnerable" thanks for advice.Gillianx

The help for covid related support by the council here is done by the County Council, not the City Council.
Have you checked recently on supermarket sites as my husband manage to do an order on Sunday for delivery last Monday evening . We are not on any priory list and not usally online shoppers.

I am on Tesco Priority list, not because I am on any government list, but I phoned Tesco customer service, explaining that being in a wheelchair and unable to drive, supermarket shopping is not practical, if not impossible. (For two years prior to Covid I had only done online shopping.) They were very helpful, and the next day I had a selection of priority slots appearing on the website. I have several other conditions, but they wouldn’t of themselves stop me from shopping, and that includes diabetes.

Mind you, the priority slots are getting filled up pretty quickly. My last order before Christmas is coming next Wednesday, sometime between 08.00 and 14.00. They will ring me Wednesday morning with a more accurate time. You are limited to 95 items on a priority order.

@samara, can I ask what you did for shopping during the spring lockdown? I’ve been on the priority list since then.

Did you have a shielding letter Samara? If so you might be lucky to get an online slot. I had a shielding letter which wasn't worth the paper it was written on so it went in the bin.

Do you have a Morrison's near you?
If you do they have a click and collect service. So I wonder would it be possible for you to order what you needed and have someone collect it for you? Perhaps a neighbour or even a taxi firm could for a small fee.
Another thought would be age concern can you contact them and ask if there are any volunteers who would collect your shopping for you? Or if you felt up to it even take you shopping.

I sometimes shop for 4 elderly peeps in my village as they have problems getting out so I'm sure there must be someone near you who would help out.

Tesco have various slots in my local area. Keep checking - some seem to appear only a couple of days in advance.

It seems to vary a lot with area. It’s worth asking on local Facebook or Next Door pages for local companies who do deliveries of basics, I know we have local wholesalers who have pivoted to selling to domestic addresses too. They don’t do everything a supermarket does but do milk, bread, eggs, cheese, fruit & veg. I know there are local people here who are happy to do shopping for people who are struggling to get out but obviously that will be a bit hit and miss.

Samara - Allegedly Morrison's are very helpful in circumstances such as yours. It isn't a supermarket we actually use, and thankfully neither if us are classified as vulnerable, so we haven't bothered with online deliveries.

Morrisons do "Essentials" boxes or various sorts too, although one man's essential tends to be another's undesirable. You need to scroll down the page a bit, unless you are looking for specialised items.

With Sainsbury's you can only book a delivery slot 1 week ahead max. This means it sill must have slots available closer to Christmas. Unfortuneatly, they're more expensive than the other stores.
I've only had 1 delivery from them. It was OK.
I'd left it too late to book a delivery slot with Asda or Tesco, with two I use (something happened to the Morrisons website & it lost my details!). I was able to book a click&collect slot, and find someone to pick it up for me. Are the NHS Volunteeres still operating in you area? Or the Hubs(?), or whatever they were called? In my area they were doing shopping for people. It's something like 3 months since I've had dealings with them.

Have you tried ringing the supermarkets directly?

Hope you managed to find a slot @samara

I recently had to spend some time in isolation while my oldest was covid checked after running a slight fever (negative in the end).

Of course it had to happen just after I’d used the ‘emergency’ bread and milk in the freezer and the day before I was due to go to the supermarket.

The earliest Asda slot I could find was on the Friday.

Fortunately a family member was able to drop some stuff in to keep is going, but it reinforced the wisdom of not eating your storecupboard and freezer stuff too empty at the moment. The problem is we haven’t got loads of space to store stuff so food is beginning to overspill elsewhere!
