Type 2
I was first diagnosed with pre type 2 diabetes and then given a prescription for Metformin. Still thinking i was was pre type 2 I was chatting to a Practice Nurse at my Doctor's surgery she told me I must have Type 2 that's why I was taking Metformin. I have eye and feet checks but no other support. I'm hoping by joining this group I will receive more support.

Welcome @Jools58

Diagnosis is determined by a blood test HbA1c not what meds you're on. There's plenty of support here. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum
The first thing to ask is what your HbA1C is as that will determine where you are on the diabetes scale, below 42mmol/mol is normal, 42-47mmol/mol is prediabetic and anything over that is a diabetes diagnosis, however if your HbA1C is not too high and you are prepared to engage with life style changes then that should be something you are given the opportunity to do for a period of 3-6 months to bring down blood glucose levels before medication is prescribed since even with meds dietary changes are needed. No good taking meds to reduce blood glucose when you still are eating foods which convert to glucose which are all carbohydrates.
Have a look at this link for some good explanation and a low carb approach to making changes to your diet which many find successful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
It is good you have had feet and eye checks as that is important.

Welcome to the forum!! I had lots of support from my GP and diabetes nurse but this forum has, without question, been the most useful source of advice and help I have received.

No question is a silly one, ask away. I’ve followed a low carb approach to my diabetes and it has worked well for me so far.

Keep logging in, there is plenty of useful information on here.

Glad you have joined us!

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and that you seem to have been sent off without too much in the way of information and advice. :(

Hope you find the forum a frendly, helpful, and supportive environment.

If you would like a good overview of T2 diabetes, to add to the knowledge you’ve already picked up, you might want to register for an account with the Learning Zone (the orange tab in the main menu) which is packed full of informative bite-sized modules. Additionally, for a more personal take, members here frequently recommend Maggie Davey’s Letter to the Newly Diagnosed which you can work through gradually, and shares the experience of one person coming to terms with their diagnosis.

This is true for type 2 diabetes.
It is not the case for Type 1.
We can (and I do) have a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes with a HbA1C below 48 and some can be lower than 42.
I know I am being pedantic (and slightly off topic as the OP is talking about type 2) but it is important to distinguish between the different types of diabetes. I am definitely not cured of Type 1 because I have a HbA1C below the cut off for type 2.

Neither would a Type 2 with an HbA1C of below 42 be cured! - I'm not, as my GP surgery recognises. However I am in remission, but there's a big difference in that if I eat 'healthy wholegrains and fruit' for long I'll be back to square 1.

This is true for type 2 diabetes.
No it’s not. If I get a hba1c of 40 as a type 2 on insulin, I’m still diabetic!!

Thank you for the correction.
Btw, Your profile says you have “Other Type”
I am type 2 with low insulin production. I describe myself as other type here as otherwise everyone assumes I want to cure my type 2 with low carb.
