I've been, I've got the gubbins, roll on bedtiime. On the plus side, I don't have to stay up all night after all. It was a locum DSN I saw and she said testing every hour was a waste of a good night's sleep and there is only a really slim chance of any hypos on such a small dose. It will take about 4 or 5 days, she told me, for there to be any noticeable difference and I should call her on Monday to tell her what's changed. We'll decide then whether to increase the dose. She told me I may have to go up to around 20 mg before my numbers really start to fall and if there hasn't been a real improvement by that time then they'll need to consider adding a fast-acting as well. I'm to stay on the Byetta for now as it's helping me lose weight.

It was so nice to talk to someone who clearly knew what she was talking about (i.e., she agreed with me) and didn't treat me like an idiot. I found out at the end of the appointment she's a 1.5 herself and has been through the whole rigmarole over the last ten years. She said she'd had a lot of problems with T2 meds herself and hadn't been able to get any real control until she went on insulin 6 years ago. I'm to see her again in 3 weeks.

Sounds like a really good appointment hope everything settles down.

Hi Alison,

I do hope that all goes well for you, Good Luck,

Shirl x

Sounds really good Ally, I hope that in the not too distant future you find you are enjoying excellent control on the new regime 🙂 A real bonus that the DSN knows exactly where you are coming from (not for her, of course!). Did you ask what insulin regime she was on?

Hope you are recovering well from your recent hospital visit, and that you get a good night's sleep tonight 🙂

No, there wasn't time, but I'll ask next time.

Good luck Alison, hope your BG's improve with the use of the insulin.

A wee update. No massive changes yet, but then I was told not to expect that. The weekend before I started this lark I did a series of tests through the Saturday night so I'd have some way to track changes. The results were:

11pm: 11.3
2am: 13.1
5am: 16.8
8am: 14.0

First night on insulin:

11pm: 10.4
2am: 11.7
5am: 13.9
8am: 11.2

Bedtime yesterday I was 10.7 and 10.2 when I woke up. I would have tested through the night again but I was too tired. I haven't got below 10 yet but watch this space.

A slight diminution of the numbers, but also noticeable is how similar the rise and fall is of each set of numbers. I reckon that as they up the doses you'll soon be seeing single-figures most of the time 🙂

its good you had such a good meet am glad things are starting to go your way

glad to hear things are starting to get sorted out Alison...and I'm sure once those numbers come down, you'll be feeling much better too.

It's a long road, but it's worth it 🙂
