My GP has changed my prescribed needles to Omnican fine 6 mm from Novofine 31G "that deliver value for the NHS or are supported by local prescribing guidelines". I find these needles difficult to use as they create a resistance on the syring plunger and I already have a loss of feeling in my hands caused by diabetes and chemotherapy side effects. I inject in my stomach without being able to see the place of injection because of a change to the shape of my stomach caused by cancer tumour removal. And the "cheap" needles make it even more difficult. My pharmacy friend says other diabetics have complained about the needles. Has any-one here got these experiences and have they been able to change the brand?

Yes, these were inflicted on us some time ago, I found them inferior and difficult because no inner cover, managed to get GP to change me back to original needles after nurse at review said I had some slightly lumpy areas round injection sites.

Hello @Terence53 welcome to the forum.
The same happened to me a while ago, they changed me to some horrid Gluco Rx ones . After speaking to my nurse I had them changed back to my Bd needles with no problem .
So do have a word with them.

Hello @Terence53 welcome to the forum.🙂 You don`t have to put up with inferior needles, speak with your DSN rather than your Dr, I`m sure your problem can be resolved.

I also had needles switched (to GlucoRX) and had bruises whenever I used them. I wrote to the Practice and was switched back straightaway.

Ack those bruises, huge. Did you get tiny red pinpricks as well

Yup. They were awful, and I then looked up all about the bevels on different needles. I could see why they were causing problems compared to the 5bevelled BD microfines.

Hi. I was switched a few years back from BD Microfine to GlucoRX to save cost and find the latter are fine if not quite as good as the BD. If it was me I would be looking for 4mm needles and not 6mm as the former are now the standard for most people,
