OLDER people are being denied potentially life-saving cancer surgery because of a shocking NHS age discrimination apartheid.
A study claims that they are far less likely to be given an operation to tackle their disease than younger patients.
Experts claim the findings paint a “worrying picture” of people being left at the mercy of the disease because of their age.
Surgery was performed on 73 per cent of all kidney cancer patients aged between 15 and 54 but only on 36 per cent of patients aged between 75 and 84 and on only 11 per cent of patients over 85.
Around 80 per cent of women under 55 had surgery for ovarian cancer but the total fell to around 37 per cent of women between 75 and 84.
