Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,

I've just turned 50 and I have been Type 2 for around 10 years and really haven't taken control of my levels. I have periods of time where i get a hold of things and eat and drink better but i just end up in the same old pattern of junk food, beer and sweets.
I don't consider myself to be stupid, so why do i behave so?
2 years ago i had a stent operation and again, did really well for a few months but drifted back to the bad stuff.
I went to the diabetic nurse at the weekend and she said that i'm not controlling it so she's putting me on Invokana Canaglifozin.
When i mentioned it to someone at work she said that her husband is on it and it's "Awful"
I've read a lot on the web since and none of it good.
Obviously, not many people take to the internet to say how good things are but the stuff i was reading was horrific.
So, does anyone have anything positive to say about this drug?
In my head i still think that maybe if i stay on the Metformin and really change my diet i can crack it but it's going to be hard work.

Welcome townie. If it was me I would try & see if it worked. Keep going out in the fresh air & be as active as poss, Good luck 🙂

I have no personal experience of this medication, but I think @Stitch147 is on this, she may be able to give you a more positive view.

Hello townie. Don’t know about this drug, but everyone is different. Could you talk to your pharmacist and get a realistic picture?
It’s hard to change your habits, goodness knows if I had a pound for every time I scoffed to much chocolate, Xmas cake etc, I would never need to work. I try to limit the bad times, and be kind to myself

Good luck with your journey

Hi, I'm on Empagliflozin (similar to canogliflozin). I haven't really experienced any adverse side effects. I've had one UTI since being on it, which is one of the most common side effects. I don't notice the need to pee more than normal. I haven't had any of the other common side effects they list. It has helped lower my by levels in the long run. Hope it helps.
