Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I am new to this forum but have been type 2 for 25 years and never had a problem with control ,but for a year now my readings have been between 11 and 20( not good }.Tried several new medications as well as taking my usual metformin and linigliptin, but without success ,anyone with any tips please.

Hi mumdunn, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear that you are having problems after such a long time :( It's possible that your body is no longer producing the insulin you need to keep levels under control, despite the extra medication. Most oral medication works by either stimulating your pancreas to produce more insulin, or by making you use the insulin produced more efficiently. If, however, your pancreas is now producing insufficient insulin, then these medications can't really help - your alternative is to try and reduce the insulin requirements by reducing your carb intake and/or increasing your activity levels by exercising more.

Has your GP/nurse suggested insulin?

Welcome to the forum, mumdunn. Medication is just one part of diabetes treatment. How is your weight? What are you eating? Particularly carbohydrates. How physically active are you?

Hello Mumdunn

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Thank you all for the welcome ,I have managed to lose two and a half stones recently but am still to heavy so I am still trying I have arthritis so my activity levels are not to good ,but I do try to walk every day, yes my specialist nurse has suggested insulin but I only want to take it as a last resort because it makes you put on weight, or so I have been told ,I would like to try alternatives first .Mumdunn

Insulin does not put weight on. Its what you put in your mouth :(. Some people are better balanced on insulin 🙂 welcome
