Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Greetings, all.
I'm a 66-year-old IDDM Type 2 and yesterday I switched from Novomix 30 to Novorapid & Abasaglar so life could be 'interesting' for a few weeks.

I'm self funding (grrr!) Freestyle Libre and it showed large peaks after each meal so I took the graphs to the practice nurse who referred me to a specialist nurse. She took one look at the graphs and switched me across which is what I expected the practice nurse to do....

So I'll be lurking here for a while and occasionally making a nuisance of myself.

Jonathan

Welcome Jonathan, glad you found us. Hopefully your change to MDI (multiple daily injections) will make a big difference and that libre graph will look like a far less exciting rollercoaster. There are a few type 2s on this regime on the forum so lots of help available

Hi and welcome to the forum 🙂

basal/bolus regime (what you've been switched to) is far more flexible than the mixed insulin you were on before, also if you ask you should be able to carb count and adjust your novorapid to suit the amount of carbs you are consuming 🙂 it is trial and error at the beginning but its good that you are self funding the Libre, that way you can watch and see how far in advance injecting before eating would benefit you 🙂

There is no nuisance questions or anything so feel free to post away 🙂
xx

Welcome @Snapsh0t , glad that you have found the forum.

The switch to Multiple Daily Injections will mean that you can learn to match the Bolus (Novorapid in your case) to the amount of carbs that is in each meal. This can make life a lot more flexible, and with a Libre alongside you can see how much impact the different carbs have you in particular. We are all different and what will spike one person will be less mountainous for another.

Loads of experience available on here so just keep asking with any questions that you have.

@Snapsh0t . Welcome to the forum from another IDDM T2 self funding a Libre . I’ve been o n MDI fora few years now and like others have already said, it is very flexible.
I’ve met a few practice diabetes nurses esp the first one I had after going on insulin who knew less than I did about insulin 😱 and I didn’t know very much.

Don’t worry about learning how to match your Novorapid to carbs eaten , your DSN should help you with this.

Honestly you won’t be a nuisance , we’re all here to help support each other , so ask all the questions you need to ok.

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement, everyone. I was used to tweaking my Novomix dose so I know roughly what's required but for the moment I'm just recording everything.
