Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
88yo T2 was diagnosed in 1981 and using slow and fast-acting insulin since 1996. Arthritic and neuropathic with macular degeneration but only around the periphery of one eye which doesn't affect my eyesight or prevent me from being an advanced driver. Been self-funding FreeStyle Libre2 which has made life simpler and a lot better, even though I've got an ongoing spat with Abbott over long delivery times. I'm not prepared to throw in the towel just yet and with the way that technology is developing, I may even make the triple.

Hi and welcome.

Sorry to hear you have a couple of diabetes complications but hopefully they don't impact your lifestyle too much.

Have you tried getting Libre on prescription? You do qualify under the new NICE guidelines and your GP should be able to prescribe it but it does seem to be pretty hit and miss as to whether they will or not. Worth a try if you haven't already.
Libre or other CGM has certainly proved to be a game changer for most of us. Clearly you find it beneficial if you are self funding as we all know it isn't cheap but worth every penny. Better if you can get it prescribed though!

Which insulins do you use and how do you get on with them? Are you under a consultant at a specialist clinic or is your treatment overseen by a GP or nurse at your BP practice?

Hi, @foxhaven, nice to meet you. However, boring old fart though I may be, I simply cannot accept your claim relating to how old you are. 😉

Welcome to the forum @foxhaven

Sounds like you are getting in really well, despite some tricky circumstances! Great to hear that you don’t let diabetes hold you back 🙂

Good to hear that you are benefitting from new tech too. I currently self fund my sensors too (because the ones that integrate with my pump aren't the ones that are available on prescription to me).

Hopefully access to continuous monitors for people with T2 will become much more widely available, as research data is able to demonstrate and quantify their effectiveness.
