I am getting low readings, in the 3's, mostly when I finish work about 6 hrs after lunch, now some first thing am so asked for the nurse to call me, looks like it is the receptionist that has been saying she can't leave the nurse a message as the nurse said I can always contact her, so she said to stop taking Sitagliptin 1 X 100mg then if things are stable in 2 weeks I can reduce Metformin from 2 x 1000mg per day down to 1 x 500mg and she might add a drug that helps with the weight loss but not sure what that is, I have got rid of a stone since early December 2020.

I'm doing everything I can to help myself but am doing it calmly and slowly also seeing it as rest of life changes so no fad diets.

Fingers crossed as the Metformin gives me bad wind and I have been caught out a few times when delivering my meds to care homes because as I let the wind out at the front door of some homes after ringing the door bell, as some take ages to answer the door, when I let it go somehow they answer the door almost straight away so get the meds and a nasty niff 😛.

Sorry if that some take offence to talk of bum gas but it is a real issue for me and they say nurses have it thought in these times.

@Maca44 your readings have been amazing considering its been such a short period of time, may I ask what your menu of the day is as I struggle to get anything below 7 throughout the day and have no chance of getting much lower than 8 in the mornings, I see your constantly in the 4's

My partner has the wind issue and always blames it on the tablets however he doesn't take metformin. Don't want to burst your bubble but reckon the Atorvastatin could also be contributing 😛

Pleased she has axed the Sitagliptin and whilst I think she could have started cutting the Metformin at the same time, it is at least good that you have a schedule for doing so. I hope she was suitably impressed by your fantastic weight loss already and your slightly low BG readings rather than talking about more medication. Did you tell her you were following a Low Carb diet?
You really are doing brilliantly and she should be acknowledging and encouraging that.

Most of us know and sympathize re the "Metfartin" side effects, so don't worry about offending us. Look forward to hearing that your digestive system is more comfortable for you and others 😉 soon.

An average day is berrys thawed overnight a few grapes as they have a few carbs, 100g full fat greek yog and a few nuts + Chia/sunflower seeds. Lunch could be 2 eggs with fresh cream or milk mixed then fry mushrooms add eggs then either chicken or bacon all put ontop of salad dressed in 15ml of balsamic vinegar all with a Keto roll. Evening meal could be steamed sprouts/carrots/long stem broccoli smoked haddock or rump steak or chicken. Pud berrys and greek yog.

It changes day to day but I love the food and don't feel hungry so an average day is 80/100 grams of carbs. I eat no potatoes/rice/pasta of any sort and don't miss it. Bread and rolls aren't an issue now I have a supplies delivered with hardly any carbs or cals so last Saturday I had a massive quality burger in a massive roll with hardly any affect on my BG. I have 2 cups of coffee a day and do have honey in it as any sweeteners make me gag.

Treadmill is getting some action but again I'm in no rush so just get my heart rate upto fat burn levels 30min am 30mins pm.

Thank you, not much different to me then really. The only difference is the bread I was having seeded or burgen but after reading (i think it was you that suggested the seriously low carb company) I ordered and tried this week but to be fair I'm not overly keen and it hasn't really made much of a difference to my BGs so think ill go back to seeded or burgen.

Suggestion with burgers, instead of a roll I put it on a bed of spinach and top it with either chedder or stilton served with a salad and I don't miss the bun at all.

Your doing really well though I hope your able to come off meds soon

I make 'chaffles' for burgers and the extra thick bacon I get when I can find it.
They are basically eggs and cheese with some psyllium flour or sometimes coconut flour if I absent mindedly pull the wrong bag from the cupboard. I have a waffle maker and cook them in that. One egg makes two chaffles.

@Drummer I have just bought a waffle maker to make these chaffles however I thought they were just egg and cheese so will need to get some psyllium flour.
Have just found a keto recipe for churros so am going to give that a go this weekend

It is only a small amount, I think that you can use coconut flour or almond flour instead and it just gives a bit more substance to the result - a bit more bread like. If you don't have anything to hand I wouldn't bother about it.

Hope your med reduction goes well @Maca44

Well done on your terrific progress - your next A1c is looking to be a big change from your November result!
