Hi Julie. Did you have any insulin to cover the orange juice? I used to drinks lots of it, before I had diabetes, but hardly drink any now because of the carb content. I think it's ok with a meal but would give myself insulin to cover it. Orange juice is one of the DAFNE recommended hypo treatments so yes, it'll be that that has pushed your BS up.

It depends very much on how many carbs you usually eat. Bread can vary a lot as can OJ. Different brands are very different. Some have sugar added, others are pure juice. Check the side of the bottle/carton, the ingredients and nutrition info. I have a glass for lucozade which has markings of 100ml, 150, 200 etc and I use this for my OJ too. I usually have 200ml. If you want juice and toast you could get a bread like Burgen which has less carbs in so you can have both and have the same amount of carbs. Ask your dietitian if you are unsure.

i was told 2 weeks ago by my DSN to have a half small glass no more then once a day i di so with my toast on a morning

On the whole fruit juice has lots of sugar in it, but a small glass with a meal is OK. You need to take the carbs into account for injecting.

Diffrerent juices have different ammounts of sugar in them (including the unsweetend ones). Check the carton and see what it says.

Thanks guys, im diet only so dont inject, will check cartons.. thought i was being good getting vit c, it was only a small glass at breakfast though so not too bad.

Thanks as always for your input and help.

fruit juice counts as one of your five a day, but only the first glass.

Not sure how it would work if you squeeze your own oranges.
