I've just come back from seeing my GP for my check-up four months after stopping Metformin. She scrolled down my blood test results and (I kid you not) said, 'oh...wow...that's fantastic...'

My Hb1Ac was 5.6 (or 38) and my cholesterol 3.7 (trigycerides 1; HDL 1.9; LDL 1.3; HDL ratio 1.9).

I showed her a print out of the last couple of pages of my food diary - she laughed at 'gin & tonic'...'slimline tonic, it doesn't have any effect!' said I, laughing back.

She said to continue with whatever it was I was doing, so I extolled the virtues of you fantastic lot here - without the knowledge, support & good advice I wouldn't have had such a result. Thank you :D

Thats great news and results there Pine Martin.

Brilliant!:D G&T's all round.:D

Fabulous! 🙂 Lovely moment when you astound the medics! 🙂 Hope she encourages other patients to follow your example 🙂

Wonderful news. Woohoo! :D

Brilliant news. I bet your chuffed , I'll have a V&T 🙂

I think most non diabetics would welcome numbers like that never mind the rest of us. Fantastic results you are turning out. You must have worked smart or hard or both to achieve them 🙂

Fantastic results Pine Martin. You're doing really well 🙂

Utterly brill - well done!

Brilliant news. I bet your chuffed , I'll have a V&T 🙂

I'm with Pine Marten here - though will have a V A T if there's no gin on offer (or it's Booth's).

Thanks, guys! I am quite strict in keeping to LCHF foods, and exercise when I can, and it seems to work for me 🙂. I would like to lose a bit more weight, but after the initial falling-off it has become stuck on a plateau. It's difficult once you've reached A Certain Age 😱 but nil desperandum I suppose, and I'll just keep going.

My GP did say, after reading my diary print out, that I needn't test any more 🙄 so I humoured her by saying I like doing it....she's a good GP, but still has this blockage when it comes to testing

Like too many others!

I'll have a gin and diet tonic tonight to celebrate "with" you tonight, @Pine Marten.

The trig and HDL is wonderful and the low trig indicates that you have minimal small dense LDL(the bad one). However vLDL can be too low. 1.3 is low, are you on a higher dose statin? It might be worth talking with the Dr about it? The vLDL is used to carry the fats needed when low carbing and a bit under 3 could be better?

a good video on blood tests and worth getting a copy of all your numbers to check

Good for you, Pine Marten! You're an inspiration and proof that testing works. 😛

I'm on 10mg of Atorvastatin, which the doc is keen for me to continue. I must admit I get a bit  by all the arguments for and against statins...
