Hello Everyone. I am an old man who started out as a baby nearly 80 years ago. Somewhere along the way I got DB2 and used to to keep it in check by cooking all my healthy food without sugars and salts. I also hill walked about 25 miles a week for decades.

Now I am in a wheelchair and disabled after surgery on my ankle went wrong. So no physical activity to burn sugar and fat : ( .

Covid destroyed my sensory abilities of smell and taste so any foods need to strong flavoured. Any healthy suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have worked and lived in numerous parts of the world and in 1992 I discovered how to naturally utilise a pain sufferers internal controls to instantly and permanently eradicate painful restricted movements without any products. My major contribution to the human condition we are forced to suffer.

Be Happy, Be safe, Be healthy ... but most of all .... Be You.

Hi there @Diabolical OldMan, and welcome to the forum 🙂

Thank you for sharing your story with us, sounds like you're quite the adventurer!

What are your favourite kinds of food to eat? Then I can look for some suggestions, but for now here's a link where you can find some yummy recipes on our website: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/recipes.

Look forward to hearing more from you! :D

Herbs and spices are low carb so choosing dry rubs or pastes rather than pre-prepared sauces and using things like lemon, ginger, garlic and chilli in stirfries if you do your own cooking should give you plenty of tasty meals.
This link is good for some ideas for meals which are low carb. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Is swiming a possibility? No load bearing and you can put in as much effort as you want.

Welcome to the forum @Diabolical OldMan

Sorry to hear your sense of taste and smell have taken a bit of a beating in recent years. :(

How long ago did you have Covid? Do you think your senses may recover in time?

Hi @Diabolical OldMan .
I feel that exercise for 'burning' sugar and fat is over-rated. They say you can't out-run a poor diet!
By eating low carb, your daily metabolic calorie requirements will take care of 'burning fat'. I found that for me at least, dietary Fat isn't a problem, it's just dietary carbs (starches as well as sugars)!

My sense of taste and smell was reduced and altered by various Covids - I have had it 5 times.
I still can't drink ordinary tea as it tastes strange - I used to do taste testing for Allied Lyons so I had really sensitive taste and smell.
The weirdest one was eating Greek yoghurt and finding it tasted exactly like my mum's beef stew.
However - although not restored back to what it was, it has come back and I do enjoy flavours and smells again. I do use herbs and spices the same as I always have done.
