ok so for the first time we were not sure if H took his Lantus last night - he usually takes this at 6 pm -.On a monday he has a music lesson and so an alarm goes off -but we wernt here .It was only this morning-7 am that I suddenly thought did he or didnt he - he couldnt remember either - but thought he hadn't-{ I did rembember northeners post re 1/2 dose at the back of my mind -phew] anyway called team - - responded back 2 mins pretty good eh!
lantus =11 units - usually at 6 pm
12.0 before bed{ should have tuned in then but thought it was a random number-10 pm
8.4 this morning
the nurse thought that maybe he did as 8.4 not so bad
anyway suggested 5 units as H and I now convinced he didnt{he is usually 4-7 in the am}
Anyway my question -is there a lantus pen with a memory- we use a clikstar sanofi aventis now- but our half pen im sure has a memory
and what do you folks use for your last injection reminder that works
we now have about 3 clocks set around the house!

I go through this a few times in a year. Its horrible.

I was the same too until I got my novo echo pen with a memory when it came to fast acting. Literally within a few seconds I oculd forget and be asking myself have I or havnt I??!

The only thing I rely on now is a reminder on my phone, and leaving it in the bathroom where the toothbrushes are. But I kind of acept that its probably going to happen again, in the near future.

I try not to worry so much. If I wake in the morning and ask myself the question, and im more swinging toward havnt, Ill give myself half the dose... (And keep a close eye on my levels).

Whether thats the right thing to do or not I dont know, but i found it somewhere on the net a few years ago. Sounds like it agrees with what northener reccomends?... ( It could have been his post years back before I joined the forum or something spooky like that!!)

Do any of those 'did I take my injection' pen caps (eg Timesulin) fit a Lantus pen?

Do a search for timesulin on google... Its a removable cap for your pen with a memory for one shot I think. Would be good if concerned. 🙂
 
Timesulin is a replacement cap which has a timer in it. Whenever you take the cap off to take the injection it resets the timer. You can quickly take off the cap to check insulin level, as it doesn't register as an injection until a few seconds have passed.

That way you can look at the pen and it will tell you how many hours have passed since you last used it. No dose is recorded, but it's better than nothing!

They aren't particularly cheap, but it might help you if the same thing happened again.
 
You could always try the low-tech (free) option... put a rubber band around it when it goes on the bedside table at night, and remove it after injecting in the morning. Sorry!! :D
 
so do we just stick to doing the normal lantus tonight- at 6 pm 11 units?
 
I would - it's only 3 hours away and you'll just end up stacking insulin otherwise. I'd just test every hour and correct with the bolus insulin as required.
 
T1 s end up doing the same things so many times. When injecting i used to put my long lasting pen on my bed so i couldnt go without injecting. Some days your head is spinning with things to do. Numbers WAH !!! :confused:
 
My lad once forgot his Lantus a few months in. Or at least thought he did. We too phoned for advice.

We were told NOT to take any Lantus until the following evening at the normal time, but just to test every 2 hours and correct with Novorapid if levels too high.

As number stayed in single figures all day we concluded that maybe it had been a false alarm, and with hindsight, had he have had a late dose the next morning, it could have potentially caused him problems all day long.
 
well all- we survived our missed lantus day -phew so 5 units at 7 am
yesterdays readings 8.4 8.8 10.1 8.1
back to a 5.2 this am and a lesson learnt!!
 
To be honest, those actually aren't that bad considering a basal was missed - I've made the mistake of missing my basal before and found it very hard to keep under 12, let alone the under-9s you've had. Well done!
