I have just got home having picked up my regular 8 weeks supply of all my meds.

On putting the Novorapid and Lantus in the fridge I noticed something that has me puzzled.

I have been on the Novorapid since I was first prescribed insulin over 2 years ago by my DSN.

The Novorapid flexpen box (orange and blue) contains 5 prefilled insulin pens - but tonight I noticed something for the first time.

"suitable for needles up to 8 mmm"

OK but my needles are 12.7 mm

I am not due to see my DSN until December - not sure what to do, any ideas?

I would be on the phone to the doctor in the morning Hazel. If the needles fit the pens then I would have thought that the only potential problem might be that a full dose is not delivered if the pen's mechanisim does not account for the extra 5 mm of 'travel' to deliver the insulin. I wouldn't have thought it would make too big a difference unless you were very insulin sensitive, but do bear in mind that I'm making this up as I have no other logical explanation for why the longer needles might be unsuitable!

I remember ages ago finding out that my novofine 6mm needles are not supposed to be used on my Owen Mumford lantus pen. I'm supposed to use BD needles on it, but as far as I'm aware it's never been a problem. Hope you can get some clarification soon. Do you have a number or email for your DSN?

Thanks Alan - no email address, but a general 'phone no - will try tomorrow

Hope you get things sorted and are able to get reassurance everything will be OK.
