Hi Gang,
Since the last time i spoke with you all, we've moved house and new doctors. My last Hbaic was slightly higher than I would have liked as I had been in good control but had a UTI and had to go on Trimethoprim. The doctor didn't mention how it interacted with Metformin so thought better to come off it. When I went for a check up, the doctor thought I should stay off the Metformin and he would gauge how I was coping without it.
My question is this? I have only been on the one x 500mg Metformin since May 16th of last year. No noticible differences were noted and I was sticking to my low carb diet. Weight remained steady, etc. It has been one month since I have been going cold turkey and my morning readings have gone sky high since then. I am beginning to wonder if I am harbouring another infection or is it all down to female hormones?
When first diagnosed, I had not had a period for four months and was enduing nightly sweats, and feeling as if I was going through the menopause. The doctor never queried whether elevated hormones might have something to do with my elevated bg which was recorded at 16. She put me on Metformin straight away. The first week 1 x 500mg and the following week increase to 1000mg daily. My period started again in March and the following May the doctor decreased Metformin to just one a day declaring whether I had diabetes at all?
Is there a test out there which can verify whether or not a woman's hormone levels can mimic the symptoms of diabetes?
Physiologically, the high numbers are giving me the heebies and I so want to see my numbers come down to the levels when on Metformin. I could have sworn that my doctor told me that the dose of Metformin 1 x 500mg a day would only indicate a very slight drop in my bg levels.
Had to laugh, my husband thought my Contour monitor could have been faulty and suggested he get some testing fluid from the chemist. The chemist just handed him a new Contour kit complete with 50 test strips.
Sorry about the ramble.
