We are going to be flying off on holiday to Jersey in a few weeks (got WiFi in the cottage so you won't be completely rid of me 😛)

I'm more in trepidation because this is going to be the first time we have flown somewhere for a holiday as a family. Last years 3 days in CentreParcs was more of a dry run but we were never so far from home that I couldn't of just driven home if I had too.

I'm not too worried about the diabetes. As long as I'm active I can tolerate some slightly naughty carbs and we are going to be self-catering (breakfast and dinner mostly, out for lunch) so I can moderate elsewhere.

Just out of interest, has anyone else been to Jersey recently? I last visited the Island over 10 years ago - I'm sure it's changed!

Never been to Jersey, just wanted to say:

Have a great time 🙂

I was there often in my youth, for hols, loved the place but I imagine it really has changed now. Plemont Bay was a favorite, but then it became a private beach I believe.

Have a great time Mark.

I've been there a few times, and yes it has changed even over that time. I first went with my parents in the late 80's because my father didn't like the idea of going abroad for a holiday but mum wanted to go somewhere different. So we went from camping in Devon to Camping in Jersey.

Once I turned 16, I holidayed there for a couple of years (without my parents) and managed to often time a trip for when the Bouley Bay Hill Climb was on (not this time sadly).

The last time I went was in 2002 when I proposed to my then girlfriend at sunset by corbiere after a nice meal in the Windmill Inn 🙂

Some of my old favorites from way back when seem to still be in existence - hopefully the Moulin de Lecq no longer has gulls that bomb you to steal food. The Old Smugglers was my parents favorite, especially since it was a stagger from one of the best beaches on the Island.

Plemont wasn't a private beach in 2002. I've got a couple of photos from that one.

lol - we are thinking of your very same plans. Since Mill's dx we have done centre parcs but are thinking Jersey. I too had some great hols there as a child and teen.

Have a lovely time!

We are here here: Boscobel and I'll let you know what it is like afterwards 🙂 But it has very good ratings.

Jersey is lovely, Mark. Hope you have a great time🙂 Katie

I thought that I would write something in here just in case someone searches for this thread and wonders how it went.

As goes eating on the island, I didn't find any pub's / restaurants that specifically listed calories/carbs on their menus. But I didn't try that many either.

Most places offered the standard restaurant fair, gourmet burgers, steaks, fish all served with either chips (well more wedges in fact) or jersey royal's (new potatoes). The bigger problem was for my wife who has IBS. She can be triggered by many herbs and spices, and they definitely liked adding those to the food. One pub seemed to have a rather over fondness for the use of salt.

At the end of the week, the pub we favored was an Italian themed restaurant serving pizza, pasta dishes and roast chicken with chips or new potatoes.

So all in all, not that healthy! But I was out exercising rather then sitting at a desk and I came back at the same weight as I went out so I'll let myself off the little treat 🙂

For lunch we found a nice little beach cafe which served fairly decent sandwich (in baguettes of course) and I opted for a seafood salad. Although when we were in town I must admit that we used the Costa Coffees. These had exactly the same items as a UK Costa, so I knew exactly what I was eating (they are actually a franchise, not an owned Costa, so I did wonder if they had local versions of things).

The Boscobel was nice, and certainly worth considering. I'd rate it as excellent if I hadn't found some (non-live, power) wires sticking out of a wall, they had left instructions for the cooker and micro plus if it had a decent set of cooking implements (no sharp knives in the kitchen at all).

Thanks for the update Mark, glad to hear that you enjoyed an active week away from the desk! 🙂

Thanks for update, looks really nice where you stayed ! 🙂
