I have db2. Recently diagnosed- last year. My readings on rising have never been less than 7 even though I am on metformin twice a day - one 500mg morning, one 500mg evening. The odd readings I get are sometimes my reading is higher in the morning than it was at bedtime, despite no food for 12 hours or so. for example last night it was 7.1, this morning 8.1. Is this ok?

Welcome to the forum Alfie.
Do you have support from diabetes team? How long have you been taking 2 x 500mg metformin per day? If it's recent, then perhaps you need to discuss changing dose with your team.
However, a raise from 7.1 to 8.1mmol/l isn't much, especially when you consider the accuracy range of home testing meters.

Hello, Alfie. A lot of people find their morning readings are higher than when they went to bed. During the night, your liver slacks off a bit on producing glucose, til about 3am, then it starts releasing more in preparation for the day ahead. (In non diabetic people, their bodies release a bit more insulin to match the extra glucose, and levels stay steadier.) It's often referred to as the Dawn Phenomenon, and if you type that into the search box at the top right hand side of this page, you'll see a lot of threads discussing it. ( and realise you're not alone by any means)
Having said that, a rise of 1mml overnight is not a huge amount, as Copepod says.
