Got my eye screening results through and it said once again, 'normal changes', however asking me to return in 6 months.......

So I checked on the 'mydiabetesmyway' website and it said my right eye had observable maculopathy........

Is this the start of decline or can it be improved, what is it exactly........?

Thanks........🙂

Can't offer any advice, but returning in 6 months means things are being checked out and will be easier to treat...

I've just googled and there's some scottish nhs articles About it but I can't view them on my phone.

The macula is the centre of the eye which gives main vision as opposed to the retina which gives peripheral. I presume it's much the same as retinopathy otherwise.

If it was bad they'd have done something there and then. I would be looking at ways of improving control in the short term so that changes are minimized or rerversed.

I'm sure it's not as bad as it sounds. 🙂

Thanks guys..............

Is it normal to get it in just one eye................?

I've got maculopathy in just my left eye. Please make sure that they do keep a careful eye on it.

Back in 6 months thankfully....................

I suspect BP may be contributing, as my control, in my opinion, has been good, or better, since the last HbA1c, getting my next one in May, so will know more then..........

Because I have macula problems my retinal eye consultant emphasised the importance of taking daily aspirin which I do with lansaprazole to protect my stomach

will my bp medication be doing the same as aspirin?

No BP medication wouldn't be doing the same as aspirin. At one point daily aspirin was recommended for all diabetics to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. I think, but I'm not certain, that it helps with blood flow

Hi there novorapidboi26,
By the results 'once again' saying 'normal changes' i wouldn't think you have much to worry about there otherwise they'd have done something much quicker than asking you to return in 6 months. Also re returning in 6 months i would have said that they're just keeping a closer 'eye' on you than returring in 12 months. Take care.

Thanks for your reassuring words Gill...........:D

Good to know they are keeping an eye on it. Hope your next 6 monthly appointment show no further changes.
