An interesting thread by a real researcher pointing out that the strong association between obesity and COVID mortality may have a lot to do with bias issues, none of which are recognised as possible confounders in any of the major studies so far.

All this to say, yes, for sure there are possible physiologic mechanisms by which obesity may increase risk of more severe courses of COVID, however there are plausible systemic issues and biases that may be at play which are also all likely more amenable to intervention
 
I have seen similar suggested the bias might also be implicated in ethnic groups aswell.
