An upstate New York district is refusing to allow a diabetic 11-year-old to bring a dog trained to sniff out blood sugar swings to school.

The family of Madyson Siragusa paid $20,000 for the dog, Duke, so she could take it to class. Instead, she is being tutored at home.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Yanks are getting massively overcharged for these dogs? 😱 $20k seems to be the standard price.

It certainly seems excessive to me, especially as my little one learned to spot my hypos all on her own. No expensive training required. Boy, do I miss her.
