Being a bit of a snacker although i'm learning not to as much, what is the thing with nuts? I like peanuts (although they aren't really nuts at all!) and don't mind cashews but i can't get into hazelnuts and don't like almonds. Are salted cashews really so much worse than unsalted version just for a cinema snack? I like pork scratchings but they are a bit noisy for the movies 🙄🙄🙄

I love Brazils, Walnuts, Cashews but best of all Pecans. Lidl do very large bags of each which are good value. Their walnuts are especially nice; some brands are a bit bitter and dry but Lidl's are large, moist and light in colour.

Like Radders I'm a big fan of Lidl walnuts and pecans much better value than Hollland and Barrat but just as good quality if not better. Any nuts are good for you, all are high in fat of course but that's one of the reasons they're so lovely 😉. Personally I'm not a fan of salted nuts because I'm not a fan of salt (taste wise) but I don't think there's anything too devastating nutrition wise with a few salted nuts every now and then if your diet is already balanced in terms of sodium. Salt isn't tremendously good for the blood pressure though and sustained high levels of intake can lead to kidney damage so if you can get a taste for unsalted nuts it's probably better if you need to moderate your intake. A friend of mine makes her own flavoured nuts with spices and salts plain cashews with lo salt but that's because she loves salt and has high blood pressure with some kidney involvement so she's on a very low sodium diet. Her honey and cardamom roasted pecans are divine, sadly not for me these days but she also does garlic and chives walnuts and I've been known to snaffle a few of those :D

Someone gave me a tip here once...believe it was Owen...have a small handful of nuts before bed...helps with those BG numbers on waking...been trying that for the last few nights...so...a few walnuts...combined with a sliver of cheese...seems to be working (so far)...or could be I am working extra hard since HbA1c is due this month...either way...I can live with that 🙂
