If the budget of the NHS in Scotland is protected from cuts, why are a number of health boards shedding a total of nearly 1000 staff this year, including close to 500 nurses and midwives?

And why are their numbers already back down to the level of 2005? Has anyone been complaining about too many nurses on wards?

As The Herald reports today, while several health boards are managing to invest in extra nurses, five more are cutting staff, including Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which plans to lose a further 320 nurses and midwives this year.
