HELPING children with type 1 diabetes enjoy a weekend away has put a nurse in line for a regional award.
Jeannette Burson-Thomas, a children's diabetes specialist nurse across Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals, has been nominated as part of Diabetes UK's Inspire Awards for giving her spare time to attend the charity's weekend family events which aim to give children with type 1 diabetes and their families 48 hours of fun.
For Jeannette, the weekends away ? which take place about four times a year ? are a chance for her to enhance her skills as a diabetes specialist nurse.
She said: "When I assess a child in a clinical environment they can be shy, apprehensive and not how they would normally be when out and about.
