Nurse review had a telephone consultation with the nurse today three others had been cancelled unknown to me only by ringing up and finding out that been sickness within the nursing community. I had 16 questions I needed to ask after all this is my review was told she had to ring somebody up in 10 minutes and she had somebody coming in in 20 minutes so basically I had 10 minutes. The two questions out of the 16 I asked she couldn’t answer she said she will have to talk to a doctor .she then said she will talk to me after my next Hba1c. I don’t think this is acceptable I am absolutely fuming sorry about the rant.

I'd be fuming too! If this is a nurse from the GP's practice you could make a nicely worded complaint to the practice manager. If it's one from the diabetes centre at the hospital then you could use PALS.

Yup, the NHS is usually poor at handling new Type 2s. They are habitually told to just go off and wander the streets. A far cry from Prof Taylor's suggestion that a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes should be treated as a medical emergency with the new T2 intensively supervised for the first few months on diet. And don't ask why you are having to deal with a nurse instead of an Endocrinologist ( the Specialists For diabetes).

I ask about prof Taylor’s work and told i can’t do it as I live in Wales and not being rolled here so I have lost 3 stones and waiting for my next Hba1c I have done this on my own with no support the only support I have is from the forum thanks

Yup I have to agree, sometimes the NHS doesn't seem to be the best. I was mis diagnosed three times. Once as a type 1, once (unknown to me until yesterday) as LADA, once as a type 2. Everyone now suspecting that I may have had a pancreatic incident and I am not diabetic at all.

However at the start as a type 1 armed with insulin and no advice, left pretty much to my own devices. I learned very quickly that you have to understand and manage the condition yourself. A huge stressful learning curve BUT gaining success over it as a type 2 is possible.

One really good benefit of it all is that you learn so much about yourself and about managing the NHS. Basically you have to lead them by the nose sometimes.

Occasionally you do get a really brilliant doctor or nurse.

I have found they all respond well if you are as informed as you can be and managing things well yourself. Odd really, because I always thought that NHS was there to give full support when the patient cannot manage or understand things cos they are unwell. But then I am very niaive (spelling?).

You will learn all the right things here on this forum and in the learning zone.

Good luck and fight on !

The question were personal about me ie how do I get patients access it says on website I can but receptionist said no and the two I asked about where coming off tables statins and bp as that are both low she said she will talk to the doctor . To by fair she has said she will give my more time next time and has offered a face to face in September after my next Hba1c . Am I being to impatient
16 questions seems like a lot to get through at a single nurse appointment. You can share some of those questions here in the forum.

I think it would be a challenge to get proper answers to that many questions in what is generally a short appointment. My surgery has a 1 problem 1 appointment policy, seems short sighted as many things are interlinked and they don't get the whole picture.

Most surgeries want to see proof of your identity to get patient access, and not all give access to everything.

When I read so many posts where people have problems with their GP surgeries, I am eternally grateful that I have such a good one.

However, my DSN always refers to my GP about changes in medication, even diabetic medications. When she was looking to change my diabetic medication, she referred to the GP, who said no, as it was not recommended for a different medical condition I had. I had instead an increase in my existing medication. My cousin was a Nurse Practitioner, and she was authorised to prescribe for a limited range of medications.

Regarding access, I had to fill in a form, and I now have limited access online to my medical information.

I'd put all 16 questions in an email - presumably, your surgery has an email address?

10 minutes is a standard appointment length and 16 questions is too many for that time frame. You need to prioritise which are the most important one or two and ask those at the appointment and then ask if you can book another appointment to discuss the rest.

Mine are the same @grovesy both give me 20 mins which reminds me my Asthma one is this Friday coming.

Mine are both 20 mins too. Same nurse. My Diabetes one she does weight height BP and toe tickling - then we have a chat for the other 10 mins. Asthma's about the same TBH. Drs ARE 10 mins, end of. I'm not sure if hospital docs are sposed to only allow each person 10 minutes or what? I mean it takes some elderly people nearly that long to remove enough clothing to have a bunion examined - let alone anything else that needs looking at!

it used to be possible at ours to book a double appointment witha GP if more than one issue.

Thank you all for your reply’s I have emailed and just waiting for a reply I know now I only get 10 minutes will prioritise my questions thanks again for all your support

I found my blood pressure dropped dramatically during the meal replacement phase, but has picked up a bit. (110/70) I take the readings in the morning, a pint or two of water 10 minutes before makes a big difference. I think it just means your heart is happy you lost 3 stone 🙂
