Im seeing the nurse tomorrow for the first time about my D is there anything I should ask her wat would be helpful to me because I know when I see her my mind will probably goblank I have started writing things down but I'm just wondering if there is anything important I need to ask ?

What have you got on your list so far? Questions about medication and what sort of target you're aiming at are useful.

Do ask for a meter and strips. Information is power remember -and do not be fobbed off with the "Type 2s do not need to test" comment. You need to understand exactly what food items are doing to your blood sugar levels. Do not be alarmed if you are put on medication straight away - this will depend on your current levels probably. With diet and exercise you may be able to come off them eventually - but do remember that Mr D is always lurking around.

Do make a list beforehand. ( I had 16 items on mine of which 5 were delayed to next meet) It helps the nurse as well as yourself and shows you are taking your health seriously. Do ask what changes in medication are needed if you are ill and don't be put off by them saying that can wait for the next meeting cos it's sod's law you will be ill before it!! I was!!

Remember that it is NOT your fault you are diabetic so do not blame yourself.

Any questions come on here afterwards and there will be someone who can answer you

First question ; "What are your qualifications , are you a DSN or ( just ) the Practice Nurse ?"
If he/she is the Practice Nurse (i.e the dogsbody at the Surgery) "what courses / training have you had/been on in order to work with me ?".
