Thursday 3pm: The number of diabetes sufferers in the Peterborough area has been revealed after figures suggest the illness is on the rise nationally.
NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical COmmissioning Group (CCG) has 47,300 people with diabetes (90 per cent of these have Type 2) and of those 8,800 have the condition but don?t know it ? that is 18.5 per cent.
Figures released today by Diabetes UK show the number of people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK has increased to more than 3.2 million.
The new figures, extracted from official NHS data, show that there were 3,208,014 adults with the condition in 2013, an increase of more than 163,000 compared to 2012.
