numb fingers

my thumb and two fingers on my left hand are slightly numb and always like pins and needles, I can no linger play my ukulele because of this. I have always put this down to diabetic neuropathy however my friend who is also type 2 has been told by his doctor he needs a carpel tunnel operation to cure the same feelings as I have, could this be my problem?

Could be carpel tunnel syndrome. I have the same thing and have had the carpel tunnel thngy cut it was ok for a while but returned. But not as bad as previously.
