Novorapid Pumpcarts

Last Christmas and again today I’m having trouble getting my prescribed Pumpcarts. I spoke to the head office of the pharmacy I use and was told there is a problem with NovoNordisc (?) getting them manufactured to send out. This problem is predicted to be resolved by the end of 2025. In the mean time it means ring Ing every pharmacy to see if any one else has them in stock. The alternative is to get my diabetes nurse or doctor to prescribe an alternative.

Just thought I’d highlight to other users of Pumpcarts.

Don't know where in the UK you are based @Annie29 - however, so far (only since late December 2024) I've been getting them OK. Just ordered another repeat prescription, including pumpcarts, so will see how this one goes. I'm in Coventry.

Hey Annie,

I’ve just called NovoNordisk who told me they’re unaware of any stock issues with the pump cart in the UK. They said if the pharmacy is having issues, to ask the pharmacy to call their wholesaler.

Could I ask which pharmacy you’ve had trouble with? I’ve not been told of any issues with my Boots pharmacy atm.

Are you using the Dana-I or Ypsopump? I know with the Ypsopump you can get reservoirs and can fill them yourself from Novorapid vials. This should be something your diabetes nurse can help you with if you can’t get ahold of any pumpcarts 🙂

My pump does not use pumpcarts (which is good because I would waste half a cartridge each time as my insulin dose is relatively low).
However, I wanted to thank you for adding to my continued diabetes education: I had no idea pre-filled pump cartridges had a name.
Even after 20 years, every day with diabetes is a school day.
Although I have no need for these today, I will add "pumpcarts" to my diabetes glossary - I never know when I may need to look intelligent when discussing pump options.

I’m in Milton Keynes and use Jardines Pharmacy which is attached to my GP surgery. I’m going to take the reissued prescription to Boots to see how I get on.

I have an Ypso pump so will talk to my GP about the reservoir and vials for emergency use. The Superintendent Pharmacist at Jardines head office gave me the about sporadic supples so I will let her know what people here have said (anonymously).

Please note - it has and still is, solely Novo Nordisk who produce Novorapid pumpcarts - originally used in the Roche AccuChek Insight Pump. I loved that pump cos it was less than half the size of the previous Combo ! However, because it had so many features despite having a rechargeable lithium battery, it proved too clever for its own good when in use and had a very nasty habit of just stopping working with no prior warning whatever, so you always had to sit near a mains (or 12v) plug so you could recharge it every single day of your life without removing it, unless you removed it and charged it while in the bathroom first thing etc.

Anyway, its delivery of boluses and corrections, plus it using its algorithm for the bolus wizard anytime was damn slow. It bit the dust.

Sorry to hear that @Annie29

I always try to reorder/restock in good time these days.

I think some of the extreme demands on other NN products (like Ozempic) have put a little pressure on other supply chains, eg vials and cartridges.

I’ve not had huge delays with vials, but occasionally I’ve had to wait a little while.

Hope you are able to get hold of some supplies without too much faff!
