Saw on the other forum that someone was experiencing problems with their new batch of cartridges, another member here has just stated they are suffering higher levels, they have also just confirmed its the same batch no so please check your cartridges for an expiry of 12/2019 and batch no - GR7C337 xx

Thanks for this @Kaylz , I’ll go and check mine .

Just giving this a bump in case folk haven't seen it yet 🙂 xx

Could be a number of reasons why this person is experiencing higher blood glucose levels and have nothing to do with the insulin, don't just assume its this batch of insulin and throw it away needlessly.

That's 3 confirmed cases with the same expiry and batch number now so I'm sorry but I'd say it's pretty safe to say it's probably a dodgy batch and better to discard it than run the risk, this is just my opinion like but I'm pretty sure there are a few folk that would share that opinion x

Also I am struggling to get hold of vials of Novorapid at present as Novo are having ‘a problem with production at present’. Any others having difficulties? This may just be an excuse from my pharmacy for the delay. Fortunately I am organised enough to have a spare vial in stock so still have nearly a month of use in stock.

Just thinking aloud. Seems strange there appears to be a dodgy batch of this medication and that folk are struggling to get hold of it due to 'a problem with production at present'. Probably putting two and two together to make 5 (I often do)

@kentish maid the vials are a different thing to the cartridges, vials are for use in pumps so it may not be connected in anyway xx

Showing my ignorance 😳, not on any medication, fortunately, but easy to see how 'false news' gets started when people read things and don't know all the facts 🙄

Well it's all the same stuff in them, so not unreasonable to think that they might all be made at the same factory!

However I just wanted to add that I got this week 4 vials and a box of pen cartridges so no shortage here!
We have to have pens as emergency back up in case the pump fails, hardly ever have to use them though, so I'm not going to worry myself too much about any potential dodgy batches. Last time there was a scare on here about dodgy Novorapid it was to do with vials, we had one of the "bad" batch and it was absolutely fine. I'd say make sure you also have some from a different batch as back up, then try the "dodgy" one, if you don't have any problems then it's fine, if you do then chuck it and switch to the other batch.

I would have thought if they knew there was a duff batch, they wouldn’t describe it as production difficulties because of the safety implications. There would be a public recall, so I wouldn’t go about chucking insulin away without even trying it. This is the only place that pops up if you search on the net, and it doesn’t seem to be a topic on the red forum, I’ve had a look.

You have to remember that they they produce insulin in great vats, so it’s the same stuff in pens, vials and cartridges, and there’s no word from pen users.

And I’m sure there must be folk who are using this batch number without any problem, as Sally intimates.

There is also no report of Novorapid production problems anywhere on the internet, only SB’s pharmacy. Pharmacy telling fibs?

You can bet your life there's thousands of people using the same batch of insulin without any issues. What mickeyB says in the above reply makes perfect sense.

Well I wouldn't risk it, if it was the only batch I had in the house I'd be seeing about getting a new prescription, I was just making people aware of the fact people were having problems with a certain batch, there's no harm in that is there? x

Not at all, you're only trying to be helpful and it's worth being aware. We're just trying to balance it and say that there might not be a problem either, yes get another prescription by all means to be safe, but don't just dump a whole batch because it might have something wrong with it, try it first. If you are normally well controlled then a day or two of higher numbers won't hurt you in the long run. And you might find that your particular ones aren't affected.

Thanks for the heads up Kaylz, it's better to hear things early than to late, when it's out there then people can decide for themselves whether to ignore or not. good thinking.

John.

I think you are right Mikey B. They probably meant their own suppliers rather than the production company.
