Ok Lantus caused a little weight but got that back off. Now started Novo Rapid and gained 4lb in a week!!! I’ve battled to shift the weight before insulin so really frustrating.

Anyone know if it levels out at all I’m on 4 units at meals plus 30 units Lantus.

Have you read the leaflet that comes with the insulin for side effects? According to the NHS website, neither list weight gain.
I took Lantus and NovoRapid for 12 years on MDI. Then continued on NovoRapid on a pump. I gained no weight since diagnosis 20 years ago.

Thank you for your reply, my specialist upped my carbs two weeks before starting Novo and it says about possible weight gain in leaflet. My specialist said at start of Lantus couple of months ago we do rapid and then sglt2 ? To pass the excess sugars but not straight away. My concern is water infections last one my body shutdown as after stroke it does this with infections……. I’m type 2

I'm on novorapid and, if anything, i have had more trouble keeping the weight on

The better your control the more efficient your use of carbs so what was going to waste (to be polite before) gets stored as fat. You need to cut carb/cals slightly or exercise a bit more so calories in = calories out. Between my teens and sixties I had to halve my carb intake.

Yes it’s not the insulin. Insulin doesn’t add weight.

Just a reminder to not cut carbs when you’re on insulin without consulting your nurse or unless you’re confident in adjusting your Novorapid doses.

It’s the insulin resistance that affects weight rather than the insulin @Dragon queen
