Hello 🙂 I am new to this website but not new to Diabetes, I've been diagnosed for 13 years now. I joined because I am looking for a support group, if anyone could point me in the direction of one that would be so helpful thank you.

Hello and welcome
If you need any help and/or support, then you have come to the right place. I don't think you will find a more friendlier and helpful online community elsewhere. If you are looking for a physical support group, then ask your nurse or check out the main site here for possible groups in your area, if they are back up and running again - many have been online only due to covid.

Welcome @Sophie986 🙂 Are you happy to say roughly where you are in the U.K.? There are some local groups but, of course, with Covid things have changed a little. This forum is a great virtual support place. Is there anything in particular you need advice or support about?

Welcome to the forum @Sophie986

Glad you have found us!

You can search for local Diabetes UK support groups in your area here:

Of course, because T1 only makes up a small proportion of the overall population of people with diabetes, many local groups are likely to have a larger number of people with T2.

There are various T1-specific groups that used to run before the pandemic, eg sugarbuddies in Hampshire and T1D London Meetups, but I’m not sure how many of those have restarted.

Facebook seems to have a presence of some local groups, which haven’t got their own websites.

It might also be worth looking on T1 Resources

Additionally, of course, you can always ask any questions, and share your experiences here, with people with T1 from all over the UK. We have had various local and wider forum meetups over the years, and hope to restart these as the pressures and concerns of the pandemic begin to recede. Currently we are meeting virtually every month to chat and catch up over Zoom. (second Sunday of the month)

Welcome to the forum @Sophie986
Very glad that you have found us.

I found it hard to meet up with people with T1. Plenty of T2s in local groups but very few T1s in our area.
I have found that the wealth of experience on the forum is a fabulous resource, along with a chance to share experiences with people that ‘get it’.
