BG 102 so 9 days ago prescribed Inshuman Basal Solostar 10 units once a day. Since when, the Diabetes Nurse has rung me twice to check on finger prick test. The only change has been fewer spikes so now is between 12 and 15 each morning insted of 12 and 20. Now increased dose to 14 units. She said she was disappointed and 'expects to see an improvement' next time she rings. Its as if she doesn't trust me. When she prescribed it she said it would take several weeks to bring the reading down. She seems to have changed her mind.

There’s more than one interpretation of her remarks, isn’t there. One brings to mind a teacher telling a pupil off for poor homework, the other more of a sympathetic, oh, I expect that will make a difference, here’s hoping..Depends on her tone of voice, I suspect!
You want to be bringing your levels down gradually, anyway, and it sounds like theyve started to settle if you’re avoiding the big spikes. Too sudden a drop can result in eyesight problems, and transient neuropathy in your limbs, so better to be slow and steady.

Thanks for your response. Its not ideal that all consultations are done by phone at the moment so no body language. BG has been very high for about two years so happy to take it slowly.

It shouldn't take weeks but a few days. Have you had a diagnosis yet? If a T1 you will need to go on to the Basal/Bolus regime before long (two insulins). Are you also having a sensibly low carb diet?

some observations, no conclusions
I was 107 on diagnosis & have been taking 16 units or there abouts of the same insulin for 2.5 years now, 3 HBA1c tests in the 1st year (lots of blood tests due to cancer treatment & ops) 36,37,36
most recent test 42.
My Dad on the other hand is so insulin resistant that when they have tried giving him some when diagnosed it made zero difference.

every one is different, results varry.

Yes I'm still watching the carbs strictly. Nurse is adamant that I am Insulin Resistant Type 2. She will not agree to testing my insulin production. Feels as if I am on the standard Type 2 conveyor belt.

Thanks. I feel I want to wait till I have HBa1c in January before the treatment is changed. Or at least give it a few weeks longer.

@keith2904 - have you or your nurse ever heard of LADA? - latent auto-immune diabetes of adults, not the car manufacturer!

and has she ever read the prescribing instructions for Insuman? I do realise they were written a very long time ago and for T1 patients but the recommended starting dose was between 0.5u and 1u per day per kg of body weight!
