Have a look at the link above. This last few days I've had nothing but hypos - some I feel but some I don't which the latter is probably because I've been diabetic for quite a few years now - loss of hypo awareness. Should I be worried? Have I done the right thing ie yesterday I reduced my tresiba background from 21 units to 20 units but I can't reduce this any further until I think Thursday. I've also sent an email with the last few days to my DSN.

If you’re waking at 3.5 then yes @mum2westiesGill reducing your basal is sensible. Maybe the hot weather is temporarily affecting you? Contacting your DSN is very sensible too.

Update
I've now also called my DSN to tell her I've sent her an email and about all the hypos
- she asked if I've done anything different - I can't think of anything I've done differently
- she said it might be because of the hot weather and she also said I've done the right thing in decreasing my tresiba background insulin
- she said to see how I go on today and if I get the hypos again I don't have to wait until Thursday to alter it again I can do it tomorrow

Yeah the only reason to wait before reducing or increasing tresiba is because it takes a few days to fully go through your system but you can move it more. FWIW our paediatric diabetes team suggest working in 10% changes so that would be 2 units anyway. You can then fine tune it later. No hypo awareness can sometimes be changed by running a bit higher (10-12) for a while but it varies from person to person how effective that is. Did your DSN talk about a Libre being an option?

Gill has a whole thread about her experiences and stress of using her Libre and people have advised her to not use it until she has had some training and would be more comfortable with it.

Thanks @Leadinglights for explaining 🙂

Thanks @Thebearcametoo for your great reply.
I know everyone is different but thanks for letting me know what your team say. When you say you can fine tune it later do you mean to watch it for the next few days then increase or decrease again?

I would say it’s better to decrease it a little more quickly and then if necessary increase it again in a week’s time once it’s all settled. Your aim FOR NOW is to reduce the number of hypos once you’ve achieved that you can work towards optimal target but running a little higher than 7/8 for a couple of weeks won’t do any long term harm.
