Hi All,

Not sure if this is a recurring bug or the diabetes playing up.

Came home from tennis last night and headed straigtht to bed.
As soon as got totally undressed, started to shiver and had flutters that were like tightening and relaxing accross top stomach and chest. It was like something squeezing through my system - its the only way I can explain it - sorry.

I knew from previous experience I had to get under the duvet quickly - as this is the only thing that happened before. It was as if my body temp had completely plummeted and I needed to get myself warmed up as soon as possible. Only once I had warmed up did the squeezing flutters stop and I was able to grab a dressing gown.

I have now spent the whole night in dripping wet cold sweats. My dressing gown is as if it has been through the washing machine this morning!

I have tested this morning - I really wanted to test last night but couldn't get out from under the duvet - I was 6.0 this morning, which is ok.

I feel washed out this morning and still a bit shaky. I have had to take the day off work and am spending the day with a duvet wrapped around me.

I never had this before diabetes, but have now had it about 4 times.

Does anyone know what it could be - it really is scary. I was scared at one time it was a heart attack! But I am sure it wasn't!

There are a lot of viruses going around, so it might be a virus. How old are you? Someone else had similar experiences with menapause.

I think it would pay you to see your doctor or phone NHS Direct and get some advice. It's probably nothing to worry about, so once you know you'll feel better.

Hi Caroline. I am 48. It wasn't the sweats that alarmed me it was the squeezy/flutters.
Have mentioned to GP before and didn't really get a comment and I just know if I ring NHS direct and mention flutters the blue flashing light will be here in less than 5 mins - and the flutters have stopped now.Seems to be once I get warmed up enough they stop eventually. It always seems to happen after exercise too.

Perhaps sometimes we need blue flashy lights? Sometimes we need to be persistent with our doctors to get some answers. I hope you feel better.

Have you had any kind of continuous heart monitoring? When I was diagnosed they put me on a 24hr one because I was in a bit of a mess at that time and I think they had to make sure that some bits of me were still working ok. I haven't heard anything about it since and so I think it must have been clear. 🙂

Anyhow, you really need to go see the GP and get some peace of mind. Even if it means having to faff about a bit.

Andy

But I only went on Friday and was made to feel a bit of a drain on NHS!
I really don't want to go again. We have to call at 2pm for an appt - Will see how I feel then. AAAAARgh - I hate being ill!

Hi Lucy,

Just another though - could yor bs have plumeted when you got home ?
Mine's been dropping in the 2's laterly and i got the cold sweats and feel like i'm being squeezed inside, and feels like i'm having palpatations.

Hope you feel better soons Di x

Well to cut a long story short I rang the surgery to see if I could ask the GP over the phone if anything to worry about and she said to go straight away. She said I looked shocking and tested my sugars again. I insisted I had tested this morning and was 6. She then told me I was in the 3's. She is now testing my cortisol level as thinks (only thinks) could be an issue with my adrenal gland??? She is finally also referring me to the endocrinologist.

Di - it did feel hypo, but never usually have the flutter/squeezes when hypo at gym. I also get freezing cold which I don't at the gym. Now i am so annoyed I couldn't test when it happened!!! She has also instructed me to show hubby how to test me so next time.....

Goodness Lucy, so sorry to hear all this :( I hope the endocrinologist can get to the bottom of it. It does sound similar to some of the hypo symptoms I have had in the past - don't expect all hypos to behave the same. Speaking of which, you shouldn't really be having hypos, so quiz the endo about this too!

Thanks Alan - does anyone know anything about the Adrenal gland or Cortisol?

Thanks Alan - does anyone know anything about the Adrenal gland or Cortisol?

Normally, you'd expect adrenalin or cortisol to increase BG levels if you are overproducing them as they are stress hormones. There is a disease called Addison's disease which means you don't produce enough of these hormones, but I'm afraid that is the extent of my knowledge - here's what Wikipaedia has to say:

The GP did mention Addisons's. To be honest I think she is just clutching at straws! Thanks again Alan.

Blimey Lucy, You've had a lot going on lately. At least your doctor has taken notice and hopefully you will get some answers in the near future. So sorry you are having these problems, sorry I can't give any useful info, but do let us know how you get on.xx

Hi Lucy,
Sorry you have had such a rough time. It sounds as if your GP is taking it seriously though - so you should get some answers soon. I hope you feel better now.🙂Bev

Hope you feel better soon Lucy xxx
