Hi
I have sickness and diarrhoea bug. Started being sick about 4am this morning. Was looking after my grand-daughter last week who has had the same. This is the first time I've had any illness since my diagnosis, so not really sure what to expect. Have been taking meds (metformin and glicazide) and hopefully, managed to keep them down, but my sugar has gone sky high as a result of having the bug. Haven't eaten anything, just sipping water. Did have a drink of apple juice, and stupidly orange juice, and of course "lost" both but had such a thirst. Not sure if I should try some toast or maybe leave food for another day? Any help would be appreciated. xx Isabel

Really sorry to hear that you are ill Isabel :( I hope it's a short-lived thing and you're feeling much better soon. These Type 2 Sick Day Rules should help you decide what you need to do - also take note of the need to speak to your doctor about the metformin if your levels are high and you're not eating (perhaps ring NHS Direct or an out of hours doctor if you are not sure).

Thank you Northerner
I have printed off that leaflet so I can keep it in my kit. When I got up this morning was feeling sick/hungry and thought I was low, but checked and was 7.9 really high morning reading for me. I am usually 4.6-5.5. Then checked later and was up to 8.2, again, high for me so early in the morning. Have been sick and the other all day, and haven't eaten at all. Just checked again and I am 7.8 so taken my meds and eating 2 rich tea biscuits. Will maybe phone NHS if my readings go over the 15 as stated in the leaflet. thank you for your help xx Is

I hope that you feel better soon.

You're welcome, it's rotten when you are feeling ill, but diabetes can make it just that bit worse :( Your numbers are elevated but they're not looking too bad under the circumstances. Get well soon! 🙂
