I feel sick on and off, I am not eating as much as usual, but my sugars are in the 20s all the time in spite of taking twice my usual insulin! I am 95% sure I have covid does anyone else feel the same?

Do you have the symptoms?
It could be another illness, the stress of everything going on, lack of activity that you were doing before etc, if on MDI have you increased both insulins? Have you been checking ketones? how are they?
xx

Havnt checked ketones, better add that to my next meds, havn't increased lantus much, just novorapid. I'm coughing, feel very worn out, stomach problems loss of smell, loss of appetite etc. We were on holiday in Spain came home 15th March havnt felt well since

Have you reread the sick day protocols? And yes check your ketones if they’re up you’ll need a lot more insulin before your sugars start to come down.
Hope you feel better soon.

hey @Joanq I know that hospitals are not the best to visit at this moment and i am not sure about the rules in your area but you need to get yourself and your family tested ASAP if you or any of your family members are feeling any of the symptoms. better to know from now for any case.
hope you feel well soon

If you think you have the virus you are supposed contact 111. Preferable online.

Welcome to the forum @Joanq

If you suspect you have the virus, you need to isolate yourself... BUT... if you are T1 with very high BG and nausea but unknown ketones you are exhibiting some symptoms that could suggest risk of DKA, which needs urgent treatment.

Do you have anyone you could send to a pharmacy (who can carefully keep distant from others in case they’ve picked up Coronavirus from you!) to pick up a pot of urine ketone strips. These aren’t ideal or as accurate as blood ketone strips, but can be bought for £5 and will tell you if you need to go to A&E immediately.

But please don’t worry about the amount of insulin you are needing - follow those sick day rules!

Thanks for your response everyone I upped my lantus and it's a bit lower today, but still not great

Hello @Joanq welcome to the forum.

Have you the ability to contact your hospital DSN? they should be able to advise you or contact 111 asap as @grovesy says preferably online as there is now a queue with the phone line. As @everydayupsanddowns says don`t worry about the increase of your insulin I`ve had to do the same thing recently and finally got it under control. As he says try and get some Ketone strips from the Pharmacist and this will enable you to decide whether to go to A&E.

Take care ask any question you like but keep us informed please.

I have heard at least 2 A&E doctors saying they are finding that some people are not going as soon they should with things other than the virus.
