Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I was diagnosed in May with type one after loosing lots of weight, urinating a lot and drinking a lot. My BS reading was around 12-16 and I had keytones present.

I went on insulin for a few months ago and I have had to slowly reduce this amount over the last few weeks as I was getting hypos. The weight is coming back on and I have not got to the point where my peptide levels are normal. In addition, the antibody test said that this is normal so I would suggest that this is not the typical type one. I have stopped taking insulin and have done for the last couple of weeks.

I thought this is just the honeymoon period but the nurse said its not normal to be able to stop taking the insulin altogether and they seem confused what is happening.

Has this happens to anyone else. I am seeing the clinic tommorow to find out

Hi Andrew, I've been diagnosed for 4 years now, but stopped taking my long-acting insulin in April, after reducing it drastically. I still need my fast-acting with food though, but clearly I am still producing some home-grown insulin. I think that diabetes is more of a spectrum of types as there is such variety in people's experiences. Most people probably do fit into the conventional types, but there are lots of variations at the periphery. However, most HCPs will not encounter such rare specimens so aren't aware of the possibilities 🙂

How confusing. Do keep us posted on how you get on. I was only diagnosed last July. I was tired, peing a lot, thirsty and loosing weight (was already very slim,) but because my anti body test was ok they called me type 2. Now they are calling me type 1.5 as they suspect I'm in the early stages of type 1. I guess time will tell. Im on insulin now because I'm pregnant but in a way I prefer being on insulin to tablets as I get better results and bit more freedom with food choices. I really hope you get some answers. Good luck x
