Hi everyone,

Not sure if I have done this right but just wanted to say thank you to the forum for the last six months. My 11 year old son was diagnosed last November with Type 1 Diabetese. It was a massive shock to say the least and don't really know how we have got throughvso far but we have just about managed!!
I found the forum fairly early on and don't know what I would have done without it! Although I didn't register at the time I have read comments every day and found it a great comfort and help on a practical level. My son has been amazing and although emotionally he found it hard to accept and cope with (as did all the family) practically he has done all that has been asked of him i.e. injections finger tests carb counting etc with little complaint.
He is on mdi (Novorapid 3 times a day and Levimere at night)
His last two ABC1 blood tests have been 8.6 and the latest one 7.7 so we seem to be going in the right direction. I still feel that there is so much I need to learn and understand about the condition and every day wonder what the day will bring!
The forum has been a BIG help and thank you!
Now I have taken the step and registered I hope to be able to help others as you have helped me.

You seem to be doing all the right things and your son seems to be on top of it, its always hard at the start and sometimes seeing the light comes quicker than others, took me 9 years...................so well done, look forward to hearing from you a bit more.............🙂

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'm not used to forums (this is the only one I have joined to date) so not sure about how to post etc. Trial and error at the moment please bear with me.

Hi Joan, Welcome! Don't worry, this was the only forum I have used to and its quite simple, if you post something in the wrong place, someone will move it for you so that you get more replies. Ask away, nothing is silly or wrong on here 🙂

Welcome to the forums Joan and it seems to me that you are doing OK at posting so far :D

Hi Joann, welcome to the forum 🙂 You are doing great - both with your son's diabetes and with the forum! As has been said, don't worry about putting things in the wrong place etc. we usually spot it and move it if need be (and don't worry, you won't lose track of any messages you post! 🙂) You can't 'break' anything by giving something a go and seeing what happens!

It's really nice to know that the forum has been so helpful to you, even though we didn't know you were there! Now you have joined it will be great getting to know you and your family, and helping out any way we can with questions that are particular to your own situation - so fire away when you are ready 🙂

Hi Joann and welcome to the forum. Do you have any concerns right now that are troubling you? Is so just ask and someone will be try and help you.

I know you said this is the first forum you have joined but have you considered looking at the children with diabetes website?

http://www.childrenwithdiabetesuk.org/

you might get some additional help there.

Welcome to the forum, your son sounds quite a sensible lad, you must be very proud of how he has handled things. I am on NovoRapid and Levemir as well and carb counting. Take care Sheena x

Thank you for being so welcoming everyone.

My main concern at the moment is the transition to senior school and the challenges that will bring in September. I am worried that the fairly good control we have going at the moment will go haywire. He is also still in the honeymoon period so not really sure what to expect when he comes out of that or how things will change. I am so proud of him and know it is going to be a lot of extra responsibility on his shoulders at senior school. The only way we have managed to cope is taking one day at a time. If it's a good day then we're happy.

Hi Joann, welcome to the forum! 🙂

Hopefully if you continue taking things day by day the significant changes won't seem that big xx
