Not so "Brief Sensor Issue"

Apologies for the lengthy post!

I moved over the Dexcom One+ in July after long term frustration with Libre & Libre 2 inconsistencies.

Initially I was extremely impressed. Comparison with finger prick was consistently close, so much so that I rarely compare now! Warm up was a delight. I was a little bit disappointed with the app ergonomics, but I'm really not moaning and I'm happy enough now.

In the first 4 months, I may have had one or two of the above messages, can't say for sure as they were short and of no consequence. But I have had four consecutive sensors that have all had the error in the last half of the 10 days. It generally starts with a couple of reasonably short ones then builds in length until it's off more than on and I change to a new sensor.

I have spoken to the help team, and had a number of possible causes put forward but I can't really see any of them being the cause. My life style, usage, etc have all remained the same, and nothing I do changes only in the last half of a sensor, and miraculously reverts when I put on a new one.

Has anyone else seen this pattern? Any suggestions?

I am sufficiently annoyed that I'm considering going back to a L2, now a Plus, but I haven't really seen much posting online about what they perform like. Would I just be changing one issue for another?

I don't really want to change, but I'm just starting to think that my early experience with Dex was luckily good, and my current experience normal, rather than the other way around.

I look forward to your comments.

B.

I did the Dexcom One + free trial a couple of months ago, to see how I got on with it, and had exactly that problem. First 5 days I was really impressed, then had the 'brief sensor issue' that became permanent. Dexcom replaced it, and the second one was fine. When I removed the failed sensor I noticed the filament was kinked, but how this could have happened half way through the 10 days, I’m not sure, I was wearing it on my abdomen, not my arm, as you’re allowed to with the Dexcom, so had decided to try that. I put the replacement on my arm, and it ran the full course without a problem. Having had that issue, I decided to stick with the Libre 2, which touch wood has been reliable for me.( I haven’t upgraded to the Libre 2+ yet, though)

I wore Dex (G6 which I think os very like the One) for 4 years on the back of my arm and I think only had 2 sensors that didn’t run twice their full duration. (I was restarting when self-funding to be able to afford them).

When I wore Medtronic sensors on my abdomen I had far more failures. Back of upper arm seems to work best for me.

Could it be a bad batch @barrym ?

Are these all from the same Lot No? Or have the issues extended over multiple lots/batches?

The last two were from different lot nos, didn’t keep details before.

How do you restart them?

I used the transmitter/bluetooth disconnect method on G6.

Carefully lever out the transmitter (a thin guitar plectrum or similar can free the lugs at the fatter end), and place it in another room for around 15 minutes. Then go through the ‘New sensor’ procedure and reinsert the transmitter. I would keep the QR code for calibration, but I think you can just key-in the number too.

Of course this is completely off label and unofficial. The sensors are only supposed to perform, and be in place on your body, for 10 days. However, when self funding it made the difference between me being able to just about afford it, and not. So I was prepared to accept any possible risks attached.

The Dex One+ is a junior version of the G7. It is an all-in-one sensor and transmitter, akin to a Libre 2, but lasts 10 days rather than 14 (now 15) days. It is not an upgraded version of the original Dex One, ie not a 2 part sensor and transmitter. So there can be no restarting.

Hmm, I think the one+ is too integrated for that. I might have a go at the end of the sensor and stop the sensor, delete the Bluetooth connection, and see if it’ll wake up again. Nothing lost.

I thi k you prob had a bad batch

I am on g6...normally v reliable, but then there will be a couple of iffy ones in a row...still, it allows me to get a bit ahead of my px so its not too bad.
G6 is still 100% more reliable than libre 2 was.
