Welcome @tinytheclown 🙂 There are others here who have similar struggles, so you’re not alone. Diabetes can make things harder at the best of times. Do you know what your last HbA1C result was? Are you on any medication for the diabetes?

Hi and welcome from me too.

I was a sugar addict and Olympic standard comfort eater pre-diagnosis. I went cold turkey and then cut out most of the other carbs like bread and pasta and potatoes and rice and started eating more fat like real double cream in my morning coffee and cheese at least twice a day and nuts and cheese coleslaw with my chilli instead of rice and lots of nice veggies and whilst I have the odd square of very dark chocolate 70% or more usually with a spoon of peanut butter, I don't crave all that jusnk and sugar I used to eat anymore. I had struggled with sugar and comfort eating for decades and I am now nearly 5 years clear of it and feel sooo much better for following a lower carb higher fat way of eating. I am fitter and my joints are much less painful and by gut is happier. There have been lots and lots of positives. It wasn't easy at first but once I cracked the first couple of months it got progressively easier.

It is important to take into consideration any medication you are on before you go down this route and monitor your BG levels to keep yourself safe if you are on medication which can lower your levels.

If you tell us more about your diabetes and the medication you take we can give you a better idea of how to move forwards. The complication associated with uncontrolled diabetes are not to be ignored because they won't ignore you and once the damage is done, the best you can do is stop it getting any worse. We would love to help and support you to take up the reins and manage your diabetes well. You will feel so much better when you do.

Welcome to the forum @tinytheclown

Glad you have found us! And thanks for offering to help others and share your experiences. Sometimes just knowing someone else understands or has been through something similar makes a huge difference - and the forum was great for helping me feel less isolated with my diabetes a decade or more ago!

Mood swings, anxiety, and depression can be a really nasty combination, and makes almost everything so much more difficult.

Hope you have some strategies that you find helpful, and have been able to access some support to help with your mental health.
