Hi people thankyou for having such a wonderfull forum, ive been looking through and gained so much information already. My dad has just been diagnosed with diabetes and i am trying to learn very quickly the best way to help him.I saw some books for sale on food and i have got them on order, but i was wondering if any of you out there have any recipes or meal choices that may help me to keep him healty and happy.Thankfully he is a man who has traveled the world so is willing to try anything once, hes even eaten snake in his time in the navy.

Hi fiona, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis,ut good to see you want to help him by suggesting interesting food that is also good for his blood sugar levels!

I would suggest looking at the GL Diet for good recipe suggestions and also to learn about how different foods can be combined to have a slow, steady and safe effect on blood sugar levels - here are some suggestions:

Also, you might want to look in our Food and Recipes section for more inspiration 🙂

Personally, I eat a moderate carb intake each day - carbohydrates are what most directly affect blood sugar levels. My intake is about 140-180g per day. It can be useful to start a food diary and measure all food eaten in a week as a good indication and starting point of ways the food might be adapted or improved so he can manage his diabetes well. Remember also that regular exercise is very beneficial in keeping diabetes under good control 🙂
