This is the letter written by Johnston in answer to questions raised at the last liaison committee. Most of it is waffle but buried in it is this bit referring to that meeting with the Ledbedevs.




The form of words... "As far as I am aware , no goverment business was discussed" is very disturbing. He does not say no government business was discussed, he does not say he cannot remember if any government business was discussed, he does not say he was so drunk he could have said anything, he says he was not "aware" of any government business being discussed.

The simple explanation, that we have a Prime Minister who is not a "aware" of what he is saying is bad enough but other explanations of why his advisors came up with that form of words are all quite horrifying.

I’ve seen this story mentioned several times in The Guardian, so it’s not exactly news. His response to the committee is typical. You might ask why we now have a Lord Lebdenev sitting in our Hose of Lords. Wonder if money has found its way into BJ’s back pocket.
