I got up this morning not feeling well, my eyes felt very tired, about 12.30 decided to check my glucose level it was 4.9 this is the lowest it has been and wondered if this is why I don't feel good. I have now eaten a sandwich and am feeling a bit better.
I have read that over 4 before meals should be ok so am a little confused why I didn't feel well at 4.9
Any suggestions

If you've been high for a while, the body can get used to the higher levels. So when you do get to a more normal level, your body takes time to get used to that and it can feel a bit like a hypo.

If you can sustain the lower levels for a bit, the symptoms will improve. If they don't then have a chat with your GP or DSN.

Andy 🙂

I hope you feel better soon. Agree with Andy about levels.

Had it been long between meals? Sometimes if you don't eat often enough you can feel unwell, or it could be the onset of a cold or other virus. I feel very sleepy before I get a cold.

Have a chat with doctor or nurse and they will be able to help or advise.

I had breakfast about 8.30 and then had lunch at about 12.45 which is what I normally do so a bit surprised I felt like I did. Will see how it goes if I feel unwell tomorrow might make an appointment with nurse practitioner as she takes the diabetic clinic in my surgery.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Susie

I hope that you feel better soon

Hi Susie
Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago - felt unwell all morning, tested before lunch and was 4.2 which was a big drop for me then - spoke to the nurse who told me to have 3 jelly babies and my GP confirmed this instruction to me the following week (in case it happened again), which surprised me.
Their view was whilst my BG is still settling down, it may fluctuate for many possible reasons and I just need to carry jelly babies and not exceed the prescribed dose or knowingly put myself into that situation (i.e. eat regularly, and the right things, etc)!! Dr also suggested I may have undercut my carb a little too much, so have a little more at lunchtime these days and am doing well - regularly seeing readings at 5 point something rather than the 6 - 8 previously.:D
Do Jelly Babies come on prescription???😉

No - nor Lucozade LOL

We (T1's at least) can get a preparation by the name of Hypostop to use when we go too low but it really is the most revolting stuff - I always think because it has the same look and consistency, it must be like eating wallpaper paste. Just don't go there, it's revolting. Invest in Rowntrees and keep a smile on your face!

LOL - have found little packets of mini Jelly Babies in the local shop for just 10p, easier to keep in the handbag or in my desk drawer. Now the dilemma - how many mini jelly babies make 3 full size ones???😉
