hi all. I've been diagnosed with (IFG) pre diabetes but last night wasn't feeling well. Chest palpitations and high pulse rate headache sticky feeling so went to walk in. They took my bloods and my blood glucose was 15.5. After a few hours and a bag of it fluids it came down to 14.6 and an hour after that 12 .3 at which point they sent me home. My aunt has diabetes and she done another blood test for me 90mins after eating and was 10.1 should I be worried it has tipped into type 2 or nothing to worry about thanks

Hi Mark, welcome to the group

Personally I'd get it checked out at the Dr.'s, Can't be too careful, particularly if there is D in the family.

I'm waiting for my referal to diabetes clinic at moment but have appointment with nurse tomorrow to discuss diet etc but can't make heads or tails from the high blood sugar after eating compared to fasting

Hi Mark, and welcome to the forum.

Did you eat anything high carb beforehand? Things like white rice, potatoes, and anything with white flour like pasta, bread, pastry, cakes, etc and sugar filled chocolates will have the biggest effect on blood sugar, and best to avoid.

I try to eat Low GI foods, even Low GI bread like the lidl Low GI rolls are a good option.

I would recommend testing before eating and 2 hours after, and try to keep as close to normal range as possible( 7.8mmol/l or lower 2 hours after eating). If you are able, you may want to try going for a 10-15 minute walk after eating, as it will help with insulin resistance and help burn excess glucose.

From my understanding glucose for pre-diabetes is 11.1mmol/l or lower. However, I do know from my own testing over the past years an infection or any illness(even if you feel fine) can make a big difference to your normal levels, so it's best to get checked by a health professional.
