Hi All

I have been reading up on this site for a couple of weeks and may I say what a knowledgeable, helpful bunch you are. I have learn such a lot. Well done to all of you in seeking out all of this info and then passing it on to others - it so much appreciated.

To give some background I have not been diagnosed as Type 2 or anything yet but do keep an eye on my BG levels as Type 2 does run in my mother's side of the family and so I have an interest in wanting to know if there are any changes and, hopefully, be able to do something about it.

I have done a couple of meter test readings - one fasting reading in the early morning (about 6.00am) which was 7.3. This was last week. This morning I did another test 2 hours after breakfast and it was 11.3 so something is not right. This was after 2 slices of Rye bread toast with butter.

I am due to see the Dr for my annual blood tests in November but would like to ask some questions about how I can do something about it now. My fasting level done at the GP's last April 2012 was 6.0 but things seemed to have moved further on since then.

I have a underactive thyroid too so this does not help things either regards weight etc.

I have a few questions but not sure where to post them - is it here or on the general thread.

Many thanks and hope I am 'allowed' on here even though I have not been officially diagnosed.

Ho Poppie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Of course you are allowed on here! Now you have made your introduction, I would suggest posting your questions on the General Messageboard.

It does sound like things have progressed since your last appointment. A fasting level of 7.3, if accompanied with symptoms (i.e. peeing, thirst, tiredness etc.) could be sufficient for a diagnosis, as could your post-breakfast check, but these would need to be confirmed. I think you should return to your doctor to see exactly what the situation is, and I wouldn't wait until November. It would be worth keeping a food diary and doing some more fasting and pre/post meal tests so you can go armed with some information. It doesn't necessarily mean you will need to go on medication as you may be able to improve things without it. Are you able to exercise much? This can be one of the best things to help get your blood sugar levels under control whether you need to lose weight or not, so worth doing something regularly if you can.

I look forward to hearing more from you - fire away! 🙂

Thank you for the welcome and info Northerner. I will post my questions on the General Thread but in answer to your thoughts re weight etc. I am watching my weight now and have managed to lose 3 pounds since starting (about 3 weeks ago) so on the right road and I am also trying to incorporate some exercise too. I work from home which is great but does tend to make you a little lazy as you do not have to make an effort to go anywhere for work.

I have not noticed any symptoms i.e. thirst etc or excessive weeing.

I am also underactive thyroid which doesn't help with weight loss either.

Right over to the other thread for some questions

Thanks once again for the welcome
