Oh bugger, I was hoping, despite my doubts, I’d already ‘licked’ it! Thanks for advice. I’ll start a log now and get back to you in a few days if I may. Thanks againDepends on when you took the reading! Your blood glucose goes up and down during the day largely depending on what you eat and when you ate it. Start keeping a log of your readings and take measurements first thing in the morning and before and a couple of hours after meals. You will then begin to see patterns from which you can begin to judge progress.
Only too happy to pass on comments when you have a couple of dozen readings, need to be very, very, careful about interpretation until then.
iOut of interest what was your hba1c result to be diagnosed as pre diabetic?
While 6.7 is normal its the higher end of normal, I believe a diagnosis of pre diabetes is a hba1c result of between 42-47, an average finger prick over 3 months of 7.0 achieves the 42 threshold and meters do have error margins so its possible that 6.7 was lower or even over 7
xx
It was more than likely the bread but as already mentioned it really should be done immediately before eating and then 2 hours after to see what a certain food has done to you, I know exactly how you feel, I was at a work placement all day and then whipped into hospital and hooked up to IV's that evening, difference being you can try and stop becoming diabetic by altering your diet and exercise whereas insulin is the only option for me to lead a life, it will get easier xxI don’t know hba1c result. Head too muzzle to remember anything at all. Am waiting for diabetic nurse to call me. Two readings this morning, one at 8.25, just after I’d had couple of handfuls of peanuts, was 7.4. Next one, hour after sardines on home made wholemeal bread at 1.15, was 13.7 !!
I really am lost I’m fog at mo!

Thanks, Martin. I’ll prepare a log sheet and ensure I do readings as you all advise.Your morning test should be on waking, before you have anything to eat or drink. Do it every day for a week and you should start to get a good idea of where your fasting level is.
Did you test before your sardines on wholemeal bread? By testing afterwards you're looking to see by how much your BG has gone up. A rise of no more than 3 two hours later is good.
