The Norfolk Diabetes Prevention Study was launched in 2011 to identify those at risk of getting diabetes and encouraging them to sign up to an intervention scheme to slow down the progression of the disease.
The ?2.2m project, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), and run by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the University of East Anglia, marked a milestone on Wednesday when its 5,000th participant underwent a blood test to check their glucose level.
