I've been to the Eye Hospital today after my retinopathy scan showed some problems. They ran through some questions and then did another scan, I will get the verdict in about 3-4 weeks time. The nurse said it would be one of three possibilities:

  1. They will decide that there isn't really a problem so I will be back to annual screening in the community
  2. They may decide to call me back for a further scan in about 4 months
  3. They will bring me back sooner if there is a problem that needs further action

I bet you can guess which I am hoping for! 🙂

Fingers crossed for you Alan!

Apparently the scans-in-the-vans are 2-D, but at the hospital they are 3-D so reveal more details.

That is so annoying for you. I'm not sure if you've seen the 3-D scan before but they are very funky:D. You want the wavy lines to be relatively smooth not like the one on my left eye which BULGES in the centre:D

Fingers crossed for a good result!

Hope it's a no.1 result 🙂

Fingers crossed for number one 🙂

Same from me too, fingers crossed for you it's number 1 🙂

Fingers crossed for you Alan.

With the level of control that you maintain, anything other than 1 would be downright unjust! Fingers and toes crossed. x

I did point out to the nurse how frustrating it was that, despite having HbA1c levels in the mid 5% range since diagnosis, and good blood pressure, there was nothing I could actually do to improve the situation :( She tried to tell me that diabetic changes were progressive, implying that it was inevitable that things would always get worse, just that the rate could be slowed. I didn't bother pointing out that I know people here who have had background retinopathy for decades without it getting worse so deterioration is not inevitable. Indeed, I have myself had BR reported one scan but this has disappeared by the next, as have others here.

Seems I am just unlucky. It may still be though that what was noticed on the van-scan was actually what I had been to the hospital before with, and it hasn't got any worse.

Good luck with hospital test Alan. As Lee Lee said, unjust if you get a bad result so I'll cross fingers toes and arms ! 🙄

without wanting to sound too crude, I hope you get a number 1 too Alan!

It's odd isn't it, the way we can do everything in our power but things sometimes just don't go the way we think they will. Try not to focus on what could be wrong and instead think that, hey, if there is something, let's work with them on what the options are for fixing. Not resigning yourslef, but preparing so that any result doesn't come as too much of a shock.

I've had 23 years of going to D related appts like that - only thing that's kept me sane....😱
