The first industrial action by doctors for almost 40 years is under way.

British Medical Association members across the UK are boycotting non-urgent care in a dispute over pensions.

Routine hospital appointments and non-emergency operations will be affected, while GPs are also taking part.

Anyone affected by this?

I may be, I am due at the hospital this afternoon for my pre operation assessment (which is obviously non urgent) but I haven't been contacted to say don't turn up so hoping it will still take place...

I would give my left arm to have a pension and pay they get...i really would! 🙂

I know it does look very generous compared to most of us, but I actually I have a lot of sympathy for them. The changes to their pensions is really huge and really the government is using their vocational commitment against them, thinking that there is little they can do to gain public sympathy. I find that very hypocritical when you think about how they are always banging on about business executives being driven abroad if they try and mess with their pay and pension arrangements too much.

It is a very tricky one, but i do agree with some of it.🙂

Have to agree somewhat, I suppose the doctors are a "captive audience" its not as if they can just up sticks and leave.

Well - one can only assume it didn't have much effect round here. Why?

Because our daughter had a call about 5pm yesterday to ask if her 14yo could be at the hospital for 07.30am to have her tonsils out, as they'd had a cancellation. I dunno now how many years she's been waiting for this, but ages anyway. Just after she went to senior school, ISTR. (although we'd all had her on the waiting list since she was about 7, the NHS didn't agree until then LOL)

The pre assessment nurse at hospital today said they were a bit quiter than normal but it looked just as busy to me!

Trophywench good luck to your daughter.

if my doctor went on strike we would never notice any difference, HUbby phoned to get an appointment for little feller yesterday and was told there were none for at least two weeks. We went to the drop in centre who reassured us there was nothing to worry about and the cough would clear.
